Last week, we celebrated Kai’s first birthday. It was an emotional milestone for Khris and I. This first year has been a rollercoaster of a ride with our baby, and just like any rollercoaster, it went by too quickly. But it was all worth it!

Your child’s first birthday is a tricky one. Many parents I know want to go all out for it. Other parents don’t want to make a big deal since the baby is too young to remember anything. My advice- whatever you decide to do, make it your own. For us, we wanted to celebrate the milestone with a small pool party with friends and family. Because the weather in Los Angeles in late August definitely calls for some splashing fun.

I found the best pool-party themed invitations on Minted, along with a cute pin board to show off some of the great photographs we have taken of Kai over the last 12 months.

Kai is a huge fan of ducks, so Munchkin provided some rubber duckies for the party that Kai and his friends could play with, along with some other cool bath toys. The kids definitely enjoyed them while in the water. Neutrogena and Aveeno Baby also joined in to help us with the party by sending over sunblock to protect our family and friends while splashing away in the sun.

Kai’s custom vanilla cake was created by Evelyn from Cakeand.Love. I would highly recommend her if you are in the Los Angeles Area!

And a special thanks to my friends and family for all their help and everyone who showed up to celebrate Kai’s first birthday. Check out all the fun below!
