Hispanic Heritage Month is something that really touches my heart every year. During this time, we are able to recognize contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the group’s heritage and culture. When it comes to sharing my Mexican culture, I always think about the great food, music, etc. that I grew up with.

I was born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, my parents immigrated to this country looking for a better future for their 3-year-old daughter. One thing I do remember that my mom, brothers and I would do almost every weekend if we weren’t out watching my dad play baseball was going to the mall, especially JCPenney, that was our go to store not only because they had great items for all of us but because they have affordable prices. It was those fun memories we shared together that made me appreciate everything we had, as my parents, even as immigrants, tried to provide us a better life. So of course I made a quick trip to my local JCPenney to get myself something cute and comfortable for the cold days ahead, just like when I was younger. I really love this sweater dress in this emerald green color because it reminds me of fall. I paired it with some jeans, booties and of course we can’t forget about the perfect lip color.

My family has sacrificed a lot to be here. They continue to be hard-working people who don’t settle for less, and along the way, they taught me that being independent and a go-getter is necessary in order to achieve your goals.
