Here at The Penny Closet, I always promote affordability and confidence. It’s great to be able to shop smart and find affordable clothes, but I feel that having confidence in what you are wearing is just as important. One way to find that confidence in what you are wearing is to be comfortable in what you are wearing. And one of the most comfortable fabrics that you can be in is cotton.
With being pregnant, comfort has become a necessity. My body is changing, my hormones are going crazy, I sweat a lot—and all I want is to be comfortable. When it comes to the clothes I wear, I need them to be made with fabric that is soft on my skin. Cotton is soft. When it comes to the clothes that I wear, I need to stay dry from sweat. Cotton is breathable. When it comes to the clothes that I wear, I need them to be stylish. And cotton is definitely as stylish as it gets.
Cotton isn’t just your basic t-shirt-and-sweats-type fabric. It’s much more than that. So I’ve partnered with Cotton on this post to show you just how versatile and fashionable cotton is, and how it should be the foundation of the wardrobe in your closet. I’ve put together three different cotton-rich outfits to wear for three different occasions during the summertime.
Outfit 1 (Orange stripped dress)
This dress is 77% cotton. This soft dress is a casual look for one of the many birthday parties I’ll be attending this summer. With great weather, many people like to throw parties in their backyards or at the park. With this stylish dress, I’ll look good and feel good. I like how the orange stripes accentuate my baby bump. And it isn’t tight, so I’ll be comfy and dry in the summer heat.
Outfit 2 (Black top and Denim)
With my full-time job, the blog, and the pregnancy in full swing, my husband and I have very few chances to go out on dates. But date nights are important in our relationship. So when we finally do have a free night to go out, I want to impress him and look cute. I love this outfit for our next date night.
Wearing heels in jeans is a great fashion statement. It is edgy and stylish. These jeans are 95% cotton. Matching this combination with a black top is always a great idea. The undershirt is 60% cotton. I just love the embroidery on the black long sleeve (which is also made from cotton). There is a lot of attitude going on with this outfit, and I’m all about it. There’s nothing basic about it.
Outfit 3 (White combo)
I’m in love with this white shirt and short combination. Perfect for a brunch with my girlfriends, this outfit is 100% cotton and 100% stylish! The color and the breathability of the shirt and short will keep me feeling fresh throughout brunch. The long sleeves will protect me from the sun, but the designed holes in the clothing throughout the outfit will keep my body from sweating. This outfit is all about comfort in the summer!
Cotton is one of my favorite fabrics. It is affordable, stylish, reliable, easy to wash, and will last you a long time. So remember, when it comes to the clothes that you wear, check the label and make sure it’s made out of cotton. Blends are okay, but make sure to look for cotton-rich fabrics (60% or higher for most apparel and 90% or higher for denim) to ensure that you really feel the benefits of cotton. Look great and feel great in cotton this summer!
Fashion that functions is always in style. That’s why so many things in your closet are made of cotton. It’s breathable, durable, comfortable, and washable. It’s high end and low maintenance. So check your labels for cotton, and feel as good as you look. Learn more: TheFabricOfOurLives.com
